Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Receives Provisional Accreditation to Begin Respiratory Care Program at Wyoming County Campus
The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) voted to award provisional accreditation for Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to begin a cohort for its Respiratory Care Technology Program on our Wyoming/McDowell Campus in Saulsville, W.Va.
Under this accreditation, one cohort per calendar year with a maximum enrollment of 10 students will be able to earn their Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Care Technology exclusively at Southern’s Wyoming/McDowell campus. Southern’s Respiratory Care Program Coordinator is Stephanie Daniel, and Emily Browning will serve as the instructor for the new cohort in Wyoming County.
“This is fantastic news for Southern, and for Wyoming county,” Dr. Robert Gunter, Southern’s President, said. “We have looked for ways to better serve students in the Wyoming county area, and this is a wonderful start. We hope to continue to broaden our scope in this area, so this is just the beginning.”
This status signifies that a program with an Approval of Intent has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the Standards (through submission of an acceptable Provisional Accreditation Self Study Report [PSSR] and any other documentation required by the CoARC, as well as satisfactory completion of an initial on-site visit), to be allowed to admit students. It is recognized as an accredited program by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), which provides enrolled students who complete the program with eligibility for the Respiratory Care Credentialing Examination(s). The program will remain on Provisional Accreditation until it achieves Continuing Accreditation.
