Privacy Policy

In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College will only disclose confidential information from the education records of students to parents or other third parties provided the College has written consent from the student on file.

Southern may disclose, without consent, a student’s directory information such as student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. A student may submit written notification to restrict the release of the directory information. Such a notice of restriction will remain in effect until it is revoked in writing. Additionally, the law provides that a student may request access to the college records which are personally identifiable to that student, and may challenge the accuracy or the appropriateness of retention of information in the college record.
