Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Announces Vice President for Academic Affairs

Mount Gay, W.Va. – Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College is proud to announce Dr. Tracey Anthony (Tony) Human as our new Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Human will begin his post Monday, September 14.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Human and his family to Southern,” Dr. Pamela L. Alderman, Southern’s President, said. “He is bringing a wealth of knowledge and experiences, and that will play a vital role in his position as our chief academic officer. Southern will thrive with his leadership.”

Dr. Human was born in Titusville, Fla. He began his career in the United States Military as a Security Police Officer with the Air Force, and then enlisting in the Florida Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer. His first Army deployment was to Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Iraq where he served in the 24th Infantry Division, and then back with the 705th MP Company as a POW guard. After the Gulf War, Dr. Human worked in federal law enforcement and municipal law enforcement only to reenlist in the Air Force as a Civil Engineer on September 11, 2001.

While in the Air Force Dr. Human held several key positions. He was the Base Training Manager, Deployment Manager, Emergency Management Chief, Safety Manager, and Inspector General Evaluator. He was also a Professional Military Education Instructor through the Community College of the Air Force and a Technical Training School Instructor Supervisor (equivalent to a College Dean). Additionally, he was a Basic Military Training Instructor managing the recruit intake and graduation center.

After Dr. Human retired from military service, he entered the civilian education system as the Dean of Professional and Technical Programs with Edison State Community College. During his tenure, Dr. Human was selected by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to represent all Ohio community colleges for a research project lead by the RAND Corporation examining stackable credentials. At Edison State, he initiated over seven new programs, doubled online program offerings, and provided leadership to the STEMM Expo and Diversity committee execution.

Dr. Human is married to Theresa, and they have two sons: Garrett, 19, and Austin, 17.
