Southern & West Logan Christian Academy Collaborate for Black History Month Event

Logan, WV – Southern WV Community & Technical College, in partnership with West Logan Christian Academy, is proud to announce a special event titled “Better Together” in commemoration of Black History Month.

The event will take place on Monday, February 26, 2024, starting at 11 am at the Savas-Kostas Performing Arts Center located on Southern’s Logan campus.

“Better Together” promises to be an enriching experience, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and contributions of the Black community. Attendees can expect a diverse array of performances and presentations including poetry readings, captivating artwork displays, literature by esteemed local authors, a poignant rendition of the “I Have a Dream” speech and a heartfelt tribute to the late Coach Tootie Carter.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community, “Better Together” will also honor remarkable individuals with the prestigious Good Human Award. This year’s deserving recipients include Dr. Anitra Ellis, Cora Hariston, Mark “Peanut” Hampton, Jada Hunter, and Larry “Happy” Saunders.

The event is open to all members of the community, welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds to join in the celebration of unity, diversity, and the enduring legacy of black history in America.
