Southern Theatre Presents Stephen King’s “Misery” in Logan
Southern WV Community & Technical College Theatre is set to captivate audiences with the intense psychological thriller Misery, based on the Stephen King novel.
Written by William Goldman, who also penned the screenplay for the Academy Award-winning film starring Kathy Bates (Best Actress) and James Caan, Misery was later adapted for Broadway with Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf.
The story follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his self-proclaimed “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes. Paul awakens in Annie’s secluded home, where she nurses him back to health—until she discovers that he has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Enraged, Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he soon realizes that Annie has no intention of letting him leave. Paul must write as if his life depends on it—because it does.

Director Bill France shared his excitement about the production: “We’ve had several children’s shows this past year, and we wanted to offer something for adults. Stephen King wrote some of the greatest stories of our time, and Misery was one of his best. I can’t wait to take audiences on a thrill ride with this production.”
The cast features local acting veteran Melissia Dawn Hopson as Annie Wilkes, Aaron Chambers as Paul Sheldon, and Kenny Gibson as Sheriff Buster.
Due to violence, suspense, and language, the show is rated M for mature audiences and is not suitable for young children.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at https://our.show/misery-southern , Nu Era Bakery in Logan, or at the door. The box office opens one hour before showtime, and theater doors open 30 minutes before. The show will begin promptly, with no curtain speech.
