Southern Celebrates in Style this Summer
Southern WV Community & Technical College is holding a major event this summer to honor the late George and Elizabeth Kostas.
The Savas/Kostas Gala will be held at the Logan Country Club in Chapmanville on Saturday, June 11th, 2022. The formal event will feature a red carpet arrival for guests, cocktail hour, a silent auction, dinner, and dancing.
“We are so excited to bring this event to Southern West Virginia,” Crystal D. Cook, Southern’s Development Coordinator, said. “We are working hard to make this the must-attend event of the year. These two individuals have done so much, not only for us but the entire community that we want to honor them in a very special way.”
The event is being sponsored by the Southern Foundation as a fundraiser to upgrade the theater that bears our honorees’ names. Members of the Savas and Kostas families are expected to attend. There will be multiple local and state dignitaries on hand as well.
“This will be a first-class event very much in the same style as a Hollywood movie premiere,” Rita Roberson, Southern’s Chief Development Officer, said. “Southern wants to incorporate all the glitz and glamour of a major event. We will also have a live stream of guests arriving on the red carpet, with the news media on hand taking photos.”
Southern President Dr. Pamela L. Alderman says the event will be a fitting tribute to the two families who have given so much. “The entire community has benefitted from their generosity,” Alderman said. “Our theater has hosted countless meetings and events. We want to continue that tradition. Modernizing our facility, not only benefits college, but the entire community as well.
