Southern to Hosts Celebration for Inaugural Lineman & CDL Class
Southern WV Community & Technical College is inviting the public to join them for a celebration honoring the inaugural Lineman & CDL classes.
The Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies will honor eight students on Saturday, June 11th at 11 am at the Academy, the former Armory building in Williamson.
During the celebration, the soon-to-be graduates will showcase what they have learned during the 16-week course.
“We are so proud of these students and what they have accomplished during their time at Southern,” Charles Isaacs, Lineman Instructor at Southern, said.
Students will show off their skills in a hurt man rescue drill, an egg climb, and other line construction events throughout the day.
“Not many can say they were part of the first-ever class, and we couldn’t ask for better people to join this ever-changing field of work,” Jeff Trout, CDL Instructor at Southern, said “We were blessed with this group.”
In July, this cohort of students will leave Southern with a Class–A Commercial Driver’s License, an Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) training card, and a lineman certification.
“I am thoroughly impressed with the students and faculty members of this program,” added Dr. David Lemmon, Dean of Professional and Technical Studies. “We have had overwhelming support from the College and community in regards to both the Lineman and CDL program and I can never express how grateful I am to see this long-awaited endeavor come to fruition. I am proud of these soon-to-be graduates and wish them the best in their future careers.”
Refreshments will be provided during the celebration. The public is invited to join Southern as they congratulate this group on their hard work and dedication.
