Southern President Selected Among Distinguished Wonder Women 2023
(LOGAN, WV) – WV Living Magazine has distinguished Dr. Pamela L. Alderman, President of Southern WV Community & Technical College, as one of its esteemed 2023 Wonder Women. This prestigious recognition celebrates the outstanding contributions of Dr. Alderman and 49 other exceptional women this year.
“For me, this honor is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective dedication of all those who strive for positive change in our beloved West Virginia,” remarked Dr. Pamela Alderman, a trailblazer in education and community service.
For nearly a decade, WV Living Magazine has acknowledged West Virginia Wonder Women who exemplify excellence in their communities, serve as guiding lights in their respective industries, and drive positive change for the greater good.

Dr. Alderman holds the distinction of being the first alumna from Southern and a registered professional nurse to assume the role of president. With over 46 years of experience in nursing and 36 years in higher education, her journey includes teaching at the associate, bachelor, and master’s degree levels and serving in various administrative capacities.
Before her tenure at Southern, Dr. Alderman spent nearly five years as the Dean of the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences, Chair of the Capito Department of Nursing, and Professor of Nursing at the University of Charleston, Charleston, West Virginia.
Her expertise spans accreditation, curriculum development, grants, leadership, legislation, and regulation. Dr. Alderman’s educational journey began at Southern West Virginia Community College in 1977, where she earned an Associate of Science in Nursing and an Associate of Arts in General Studies.
She furthered her education at West Virginia University, graduating in 1987 and 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing, respectively. In 2012, she earned her Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership, focusing on Appalachian Studies from Marshall University.
A member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing and the Golden Key International Honor Society, Dr. Alderman takes pride in being a mother of two children and a grandmother of four grandchildren.
