State Vice Chancellor Emeritus for Academic Affairs Named Interim President of Southern WV Community & Technical College

Mount Gay, WV – Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College is pleased to announce that Dr. Corley Dennison has been appointed as Interim President of the institution, effective April 7, 2025.

Dr. Dennison currently serves as Vice Chancellor Emeritus for Academic Affairs at the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. With decades of experience in higher education leadership, teaching, and administration, Dr. Dennison brings a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success.

A native of Sutton, West Virginia, Dr. Dennison earned his bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in 1976. He began his professional career in commercial radio before transitioning to public broadcasting in 1980 as operations manager at KXCV-FM, an NPR member station at Northwest Missouri State University.

In 1985, he returned to his home state to join the faculty at Marshall University. Over a 29-year career at Marshall, Dr. Dennison held numerous leadership roles, including Faculty Senate President (1997–1999), Assistant Dean in both University College and the School of Journalism, Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications (2004–2012), Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (2012–2014), Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (2014-2021 and 2023-2024) and then Vice Chancellor Emeritus.

Dr. Dennison holds a master’s degree in English from Northwest Missouri State University (1984) and a doctorate in education from West Virginia University (1992).

Dr. Dennison expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “Southern has a proud tradition of serving its students and communities. I am excited to support its mission and work alongside faculty, staff, and students to build on its legacy.”
