Student Grants

FINAL QUARTERLY REPORT (October, 1 – December 31, 2020)

This is the final quarterly report posting that covers all remaining HEERF fund expenditures for Section 18004(a)(1) Student Portion funds. After posting this report, no more quarterly public reporting of Section 18004(a)(1) Student Portion funds is required.

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College has posted to their website (www.southernwv.edu) the initial CARES Act Student Grants Update on May 18, 2020. The report fulfilled the requirements to explain the communication to students, methodology of distribution, and distribution amounts. That report remains available on the website for reference.

As of May 18^th, the total number of students at the institution eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 1,017 (unduplicated) students for an amount of $686,475.

As of July 13, 2020, The total number of students at the institution eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 113 students (21 unduplicated student awards) for an amount of $76,275 with $1,141 of that total being disbursed to students from the school portion of the CARES Act Funding.

As of August 12, 2020, The total number of students at the institution eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 1 student for an amount of $500 from the school portion of the CARES Act Funding.

As of October 2020, Southern had $3,375.00 for 5 students that was undelivered, there have been logistical challenges of delivery; method used for refunds through our third party vendor are no longer valid, closed bank accounts, or change of address without notification.

Southern worked diligently to disperse the remaining funds to students according to the initial plan. However, after the month of November, the efforts did not prove successful, the College made an alternate plan to fulfill the requirements of 100% dispersion of received CARES Act funds that are purposed for emergency student grants.

Applications were accepted until December 7, 2020 in an effort to disburse the remaining funds. As of December 9, 2020 all remaining funds in the amount of $3,375.00 was disbursed to 5 students.

The total number of Emergency Financial Aid Grant Awards under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 1,131 awards.

The total number of unduplicated students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 1,033 students for a total of $761,609 plus $1,641 from the school portion of the CARES Act Funding making our total Emergency Financial Aid Grant Awards $763,250.

The College believes that actions were taken in good faith to distribute all of the funds according to the initial plan and if any re-allocation occurs, it will be in accordance with all regulations.

Southern has complied with the reporting requirements by reporting quarterly until all funds have been distributed appropriately. Southern is satisfied with the complete distribution requirements and this is the “Final Quarterly Posting.”

As of July 13, 2020, The total number of students at the institution eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 113 students for an amount of $76,275 with $1,141 of that total being disbursed to students from the school portion of the CARES Act Funding.

The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 1,130 students for a total of $761,609 plus $1,641 from the school portion of the CARES Act Funding.

The College believes that actions were taken in good faith to distribute all of the funds according to the initial plan and if any re-allocation occurs, it will be in accordance with all regulations.

Southern will comply with the reporting requirements by reporting quarterly until all funds have been distributed appropriately. Upon complete satisfaction of distribution requirements, a “Final Quarterly Posting” will be made.
