Southern WV Community & Technical College Recognized as a 2024 “Great College to Work For”

Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College has been honored as one of the nation’s top institutions in the prestigious 2024 Great Colleges to Work For® program. This recognition places Southern among an elite group of colleges, with only two institutions in West Virginia receiving the award this year. Notably, Southern is the only community college in the state to earn this distinction.

The announcement was made through GreatCollegesList.com and shared digitally and in print as part of a special insert in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Southern achieved recognition in two key categories: Shared Governance and Faculty Experience.

Dr. Pamela L. Alderman, President of Southern, expressed her pride in the achievement, stating, “This recognition is a meaningful validation of the community we’ve cultivated at Southern. However, our ultimate goal remains to foster an environment that values and supports every individual’s contribution to the college. Each member of our college plays a vital role in making this a great place to work.” This marks the third time Southern has received this prestigious recognition in its 53-year history, all during Dr. Alderman’s tenure.

The selection process for the Great Colleges to Work For® recognition involved surveying 216 colleges and universities nationwide, with only 75 institutions earning the honor. Employee feedback played a critical role in the evaluation process. Southern’s institutional data on employment policies and practices was also reviewed for selection.

The Great Colleges to Work For® program, one of the nation’s most well-regarded workplace recognition initiatives, was administered and analyzed by ModernThink, a leading strategic human capital consulting firm.
