Southern’s Appalachian Leadership Academy

The Cotiga Fellows

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College is proud to be joining several other colleges and universities across West Virginia in hosting the Appalachian Leadership Honors Program.

General Robert H. Foglesong created and founded the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation believing that “One of the most fundamental services a nation can provide to its citizens is an investment in the development of its next generation of leaders.”

The mission of Southern’s Appalachian Leadership Academy is “To prepare the next generation of business, political, and academic leaders as they enter America’s workforce by enhancing their leadership skills and instilling a foundation of impeccable character in those emerging leaders.”

The Appalachian Leadership Academy core values include the highest commitment to ethics, integrity, courage, impeccable character, and motivation of others to achieve the extraordinary.

Southern’s Appalachian Leadership Academy, first class of students, called Cotiga Fellows, was inducted in December of 2007. Students selected to serve as Cotiga Fellows receive full tuition, for up to four semesters, and a book allowance.
