Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies

The Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies provides training for individuals who are interested in a career in the mining and/or energy technology industries. The classes are geared for enhancing student’s knowledge of advanced modern processes and technologies to assist them with job placement in a variety of technical fields. Through the use of state-of-the-art training simulators and hands-on equipment labs, students will obtain industry certifications of which most are transferable to academic credit hours.

The academy operates at all Southern locations, as well as the new academy facility centrally located in downtown Logan. This one of a kind academy facility will enhance the student’s career opportunities through specialized technology programs.

Career Oppurtunities

With the current workforce reaching retirement age within the next decade, an estimated 5,000 or more employees will need to be replaced. All training and education is customized to meet the needs of the clients, businesses, students, and industry. These mining jobs pay an average annual salary of $50,000 or more.

Underground Training

Underground Southern also has an underground mine simulation to provide hands-on training to prepare and enhance student knowledge of what to expect underground. This is the industry’s first of its kind. This underground simulation feels and looks just like a real mine. Utilizing various work labs will increase the miners ability to be a safer, more efficient worker.

Simulator Training

Free Standing SimulatorSouthern uses a first-class, state of the art, 3D simulator with a full-range motion based operator’s seat, to provide training for surface mine equipment.

This simulator is equivalent to those used by the military and commercial airlines for pilot training and can be used for many equipment scenarios.
