
Ms. Tomblin assumed her duties as President of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College on November 16, 1999. Of her twenty-five years of service at the College, she served fifteen as an administrator, leaving her most recent position as the Vice President for Economic and Community Development. Her many areas of responsibilities have included Management of Campus Facilities, Management of Campus Instruction Programs, Community Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphics and Television Services, Human Resources, Continuing Education, Workforce Development, Fund Raising, Small Business Development Center and other special projects. Ms. Tomblin served as an adjunct faculty member teaching in the communications field from 1978 to 1981. She moved to full-time faculty status in 1983, just prior to moving into administration.
President Tomblin currently serves on several statewide committees including the Education Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Forward Southern West Virginia Executive Board, and the West Virginia Regional Contracting Assistance Center Board and Executive Committee. Most recently, the Higher Education Policy Commission appointed her to serve on the Leadership Consortium for the National Collaborative for Postsecondary Policy. Additionally, Ms. Tomblin serves as Chair of the Logan Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, is a member of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, CEDAR of Southern West Virginia, Inc., Appalachian Regional Rural Community College Initiative Consortium, is an Ex-officio to the Corridor G Regional Development Authority, and many civic organizations. She is very active in her local church and her son’s athletics.
Under her leadership, the College was successful in attaining over $15,000,000 in grant funds. Throughout her years of service, she has been most successful in fostering cooperative relationships and partnerships between business and industry groups, government officials, boards of education and the College. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Journalism, and a Doctorate of Humane Letters honorary degree from Marshall University. She is an advocate for community colleges and the unique mission they have throughout West Virginia and the nation.
