Dean of Student Services

Full Time:                                                          Non-Classified                                                    Position Reports to the President

 

Requirments:  A Master's Degree in Student Development, Counseling, Educational Leadership, Business, Psychology, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university; Five (5) years of Student Affairs experience in a higher education environment with a record of progressively increasing responsibility in one or more areas this will oversee; Three (3) years of higher education leadership experience, including staff supervision, budget management and strategic planning; and, Experience in budget oversight and financial management.  Knowledge:  Doctorate Degree in higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, psychology, preferred; A documented history of success in a student services function within the community college setting; Previous experience directly related to one of the areas of assigned responsibility of this position; and, Knowledge of best strategies, practices, programs, and services promoting recruitment and retention of traditional and non-traditional students; Ensure effective ongoing training and development of student services staff,  especially in customer service and job knowledge, which focus on a student centered approach through cross training and collaboration; Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Development management team; Inspire commitment to the fulfillment of the institutional vision, mission, strategic plan, and affirmative action; Foster a positive college environment, which promotes diversity and excellence in all areas of responsibility; and, Serve on various college and external committees as assined; travel to various campus locations, as well as attend state and national meetings.  Skills:  Knowledge and understanding of the comprehensive community college mission and philosophy; Ability to analyze recruitment and retention related data and assess programming activities as part of a strategic enrollment planning initiative; Ability to facilitate organizational development and change; Considerable knowledge of higher education laws, practices, and procedures with emphasis on the Federal Education and Privacy Act, Clery Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; Ability to carry out assignments and work independently and as a member of a team; Ability to organize material, analyze data, and prepare pertinent reports and written recommendations; Ability to develop and maintain partnerships both internal and external; Analytical and problem-solving skills sufficient to analyse and resolve complex situations; Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision; Provide leadership in determining the philosophy, vision, and strategic planning of the Student Services Unit within the College and the overall strategies necessary to meet the College's student access and success missions; Develop and implement strong financial aid programs for students to include strong and effecitive communication and outreach plans to students and their parents/families in regard to financial aid availability and applying for aid; Develop, maintain and evaluate systems and processes necessary to ensure successful attainment of annual unit and departmental goals; Assist the Enrollment Management and Student Development Department in the development and implementation of processes and procedures for effective registration, orientation, admissions advising, placement testing, and other admissions-related functions and services; Coordinate, collaborate, and cooperate with other units and departments in providing services that maximize retention of students;  Provide, maintain, analyze and interpret data needed for effective planning at the institutional, unit, and department levels; Administer and interpret federal and state laws, regulations, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to the services and other support provided to students within the areas of assigned responsibility; With creativity, provide administrative direction and oversight for all campus locations in the areas of assigned responsibility; Provide reports and other data required by various internal units and departments as well as external agencies and organizations;  Collect, collate, maintain, and disseminate information required under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Sercurity Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act; Develop and recommend policies and procedures to the President in all areas of responsibility and implement such policies and procedures along with practices which foster, promote, and ensure a student centered, customer centered environment throughout the college;  Develop and recommend the annual departmental budgets for all student services activities and programs from recruitment through graduation and maintains budgetary control of functions supervised; Ensure effective ongoing training and development of student services staff, especially in customer services and job knowledge, which focus on a student centered approach through cross training and collaboration; Supervise and evaluate direct reporting subordinate positions; Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Development management team; Inspire commitment to the fullfillment of the institutional vision, mission, strategic plan, and affirmative action;
