Savas-Kostas Outstanding Staff Award

Ms. Ruby R. Runyon, Administrative Assistant, Senior to the Departments of Natural Science and Mathematics began her career at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in 2002.
Six faculty members nominated Ms. Runyon for the prestigious Savas-Kostas Award for Excellence. Each complimented her for her broad knowledge base concerning college functional areas and her ability to serve and anticipate the needs of students. One faculty member described her as "An irreplaceable gem in Southern‚Äôs crown." Others wrote that she anticipates the needs of those she works with and is always efficient, organized and thorough. In a reference to preparing budgets, another faculty member said, "Ruby went green before it was fashionable." During her seven-year tenure, Ms. Runyon has been clipping coupons, recycling ink cartridges, bargain hunting on the Internet, all in an effort to stretch budgets. "Amazingly, she does all of this with a smile on her face and a gleam in her eye."
Ms. Runyon was the valedictorian of Belfry High School‚Äôs graduating class of 1975, and earned an Associate in Arts degree from Southern in 1977. She is the proud mother of two sons, Richard "Brandon" and Robert Thomas. She and her husband, Richard "Pete", reside at Pinsonfork, Kentucky.
