MONEY FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS!!! - Important Financial Aid dates for all students planning to attend the 2018/2019 school year.

All students, new and current, should review the following dates to make sure they have all of the necessary paperwork submitted to receive all possible financial assistance for Fall 2018.

March 01

- FAFSA filing deadline for Promise Scholarship applicants.

New incoming freshman:  watch for your Personal Southern Award Letter in the mail.

Returning Students:  watch for your Personal Southern Award letter sent to your Southern Student E-mail account.

- You are able to view and accept your awards by accessing your records through your Southern Student E-mail account: Browse to, click on the MySouthern logo at the top right or browse to

- Access your Southern Student Email account, and your "MySouthern" account frequently to ensure you read important communications from the Office of Student Financial Assistance and other offices. 

April 15

- WV residents must file the FAFSA by April 15, For WV Higher Education Grant consideration.

- The Southern Scholarship and Foundation Scholarship applications are due by April 15 to be considered for Fall 2018 enrollment.  You can apply here.

May 01

- Submit requested information or documents to Southern’s Financial Aid Office as soon as possible to ensure aid is finalized by the billing due date - July 19, 2018 for Fall. View any outstanding financial aid requirements by accessing your financial aid records through  

- Look for WV Promise Scholarship and WV Higher Education Grant Program notifications mailed from WV Higher Education Policy Commission.

July 16

- Financial Aid completion deadline. (Students who submit required documentation after this date are not guaranteed their aid will be processed in time to avoid being dropped for non-payment).

- Federal Direct Loan (FDL) borrowers should complete online Entrance Loan Counseling and sign an electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) .

- Financial Aid appeals are due to the Financial Aid office.
